While interviews can seem daunting, some simple preparation can help to make the process much easier and more successful.
Dress and Presentation
The way you present yourself is always important in an interview. As part of your presentation for the interview, be sure to find out about the dress standards from one of our Schweppes Australia recruitment consultants.
Behavioural Event Interviews (BEI)
At Schweppes Australia, we use Behavioural Event Interviews (BEI) as part of the selection process for all our roles. This method asks you to provide detailed examples to demonstrate the skills we require for the position you are being interviewed for. You’ve probably attended these interviews before without realising it - the questions usually start with: "Tell me about a time…" or "Describe a situation where you…”
A simple method for structuring your answers to these questions can be remembered as C.A.R – context, action, result.
Context: What did you need to achieve? Describe the scenario, including any relevant circumstances.
Action: What did you do to achieve the task? This answer will often be the longest part as it is your approach that gives some valuable insight into how you tackled the issues.
Result: What was the end result? This is the part that many candidates forget, but is very important to demonstrate that your actions led to something. Don't forget that this answer may also include unintended additional results, such as you learning a new skill or building a new relationship.
All answers should be relevant, specific to the question, as recent as possible and describing things you did. If it was a team project be clear about your role.
Preparation
The internet is a great preparation tool. Be sure to do your research, such as find out more about the company, look up the location for the interview or research BEIs.
Here are some interview questions to practise:
1. What are your biggest career successes? How were they achieved?
2. What would you do differently if you were given the opportunity?
3. What have been your strongest working relationships? What have been your weakest?
4. What achievements are you most proud of in your career?
Think of the position that you are being interviewed for and ensure that your examples have some relevance to the key requirements of the job.
It's also important to be clear on your motivations for wanting the role you are being interviewed for, and for wanting to work at Schweppes.
During the interview
Arrive early for the interview (by at least 10 minutes). Be honest in your answers, and project your real personality.
Learn from your experiences
The reality is you won't be successful in every interview you attend. At Schweppes, we’re happy to provide feedback. So rather than feel disappointed, take the time to learn where you could improve next time.
In some cases, you might have let yourself down in the interview, and in others there may just have been a better candidate.
Above all – have fun. |
